Description: The tobacco-specific nitrosamine 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) is a powerful lung carcinogen in animal models at a dose of 25mg/kg body weight (1) . NNK is considered “carcinogenic to humans” by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (2). NNK induce carcinogenesis by causing DNA adductions and mutations as well as promoting tumor growth through receptor-mediated effects (3). Nicotine can undergo chemical conversions into carcinogenic NNK during the process of curing & smoking (4) .
