Applications1,3-Butadiene has been shown in multiple studies to be carcinogenic and toxic to rats (1,4), strongly suggesting that it has cytotoxic effects on humans as well. 1,3-Butadiene is a component of tobacco smoke, and has also shown to encourage arteriosclerotic plaque accumulation (2) and its epoxides induce sister chromatid exchanges in human lymphocytes (3).
